Another exoplanet observed last night, while moonlight prevents other types of observations from achieving reasonable quality. This time it is exoplanet TrES-3b.
It is a distant planet, about 1,300 light-years away, with twice Jupiter's mass, completing an orbit around its star in just 31 Earth hours. Its star is slightly smaller and cooler than our Sun.
The planet is so close to its star that it undergoes orbital decay due to tidal effects.
